Deaf Project

forum Our Aim

  The aim of the Deaf
  Project is to help and
  educate the
  deaf community to
  understand
  their rights.

Feedback
DEAF
- Stands for Deaf Equal Action Forum. By getting information to the forum Deaf people know more about their rights. The forum is helping to build bridges between the Deaf Community and Service Providers.

Forums - A short talk by the service provider with British Sign Language Interpreters present so everyone can understand what is being said.

DEAF Independent Living
-
is promoted by the Deaf Project.
  By getting information to the
  forum Deaf people no longer
have to rely on social services
to inform them and meet their
  everyday life needs. Deaf
  people who receive basic
  skills training will gain
  confidence, independence and
  better job opportunities in
  education and employment.

Feedback - The Deaf community has found the forums very helpful. The talks mean the Deaf community can learn about the services and what they can expect to get from them. They can ask questions and speak up about things they may not have done before. All this opportunitieshas made Deaf people more confident and have a better understanding and choice.

Opportunities
- Deaf people trained to deliver services will have more chance getting paid work and
raise deaf awareness. The Deaf Project will make a big difference to very many Deaf people  in Devon, through training, provision and advocacy(support). It will also develop a greater awareness of Deaf needs in the wider Devon community.
