Diversity Co-ordination

Living Options currently represents disability issues on the Devon Consortium.  Every sub-region has a consortium of voluntary sector organisations which have been brought together with the help of government funding with the purpose of strengthening the sector.  Living Options is the joint lead (working alongside Devon Racial Equality Council) on Equality and Diversity work for the consortium.  In addition to representing issues of disability and diversity in general terms, the Consortium role is as a 'critical friend'.  This support and scrutiny role ensures the consortium and its projects promote equality of opportunity for all.

Living Options Devon also attends a number of partnerships in Devon to represent disability issues and Deaf people who use British Sign Language.  For example, we act as a 'critical friend' to Devon County Council and the Devon Strategic Partnership on disability issues.  Living Options also have good links to district-level diversity groups in the County.

What is Diversity

Diversity is all about recognising difference – realising that everyone has different backgrounds, points of view and needs (which could relate to age, gender, disability, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, culture and lifestyle).
