Countryside Mobility

The Countryside Mobility (South West) Project will improve access to the countryside for people with disabilities living in and visiting the South West region.

Over a two year period Tramper all-terrain mobility scooters and wheelchair accessible Wheelyboats will be placed at 30 sites across the region including urban and country parks, woodlands and lakes.  This will provide disabled people with a real outdoor experience, and will allow them to access new areas of the countryside with independence, whether alone or with family.

Living Options Devon will be working in partnership with the countryside sites, other disability groups and private companies to start hiring the equipment out from summer 2010.

The funding for the project has come from Big Lottery and Natural England through 'Access to Nature' - a scheme which aims to encourage more people to enjoy the outdoors, that currently have little or no contact with the natural environment - perhaps because they lack confidence to get out and enjoy natural places or have few opportunities to do so.
