Research and Development

Living Options Devon has been conducting highly professional, innovative and challenging research and service evaluations since the Organisation was founded in 1990.

Committed to identifying the needs of local people with physical and/or sensory disabilities and Deaf people with sign language, challenging attitudes and service provision and working to make improvements and fill service gaps, we have been commissioned by a variety of local, regional and national organisations and agencies including the Department of Health, Royal National Institute for the Blind, Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, the Equality & Human Rights Commission and Devon County Council.

Some of our recent research projects are:

Devon County Association for the Blind (DCAB) pilot voluntary visiting service evaluation (2010). Research, in association with Thomas Pocklington Trust, to evaluate a befriending service provided by DCAB.

Devon Disability Policing Project (2010). Research, in partnership with Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, examining the issues affecting local disabled and Deaf victims of crime and their carers. Download a copy of the report here. 

South West Region Capacity Development Project (2010). Research, in partnership with the Equality & Human Rights Commission, to look at the key barriers faced by older people in accessing and utilising personalised care and support services in the South West. Download a copy of the report here.

The Stronger Communities Service User Engagement project (ongoing). Research in partnership with the Devon Consortium, which aims to improve the engagement of service users and special interest groups in Voluntary and Community and Public Sector organisations across Devon.  

South West Region Support Brokerage Pilot Evaluation (2010). Research to evaluate pilot external support brokerage services in the South West. Download a copy of the report here.

The development and delivery of a client centred commissioning strategy for housing related care services for people in Devon with physical and sensory disabilities (2007).

An investigtion of Sign Language Interpreting in Devon (2006).

Services in Torbay and South Devon for people with visual impairment (2005).

An assessment of service provision at the point of diagnosis of a permanent visual loss - a user-led study. (2002-2004)

Promoting Our Voice - the development of self advocacy/advocacy services for people with physical and /or sensory disability in Devon.
