Devon Disability Collective
Taken from the Devon Disability Collective website:
Devon Disability Collective (DDC) is a Social Enterprise that provides quality employment and training to people with disabilities and those furthest from the labour market through our own commercial enterprises.
The DDC staff along with support from Devon County Council, Exeter City Council and Community Union undertook a business takeover from Pluss in July of this year. The long-serving members of staff (most of whom are disabled) now own and run the business, which has been operating for over 55 years in a 10,000 square foot factory based on Marsh Barton Industrial Estate in Exeter. The head of Devon County Council – John Hart and his team fully backs DDC and the Business Plan going forward, in terms of a 120k loan made to the company. The Board of Directors is made up of four long serving employees and also MP Ben Bradshaw is the company Patron.
DDC currently operates in four key areas:
- The manufacture of wheelchair accessories, upholstery and seating: click here to view the wheelchair products catalogue
- Upholstery Services – home, business, auto-motive and marine: click here to view the upholstery leaflet
- Mobility Services: click here to view the Mobility Showroom leaflet
- Light Engineering & Assembly

Living Options Devon is a well respected user-led organisation which works to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people can live the life they choose. Set up in 1990 LOD is a registered charity (Charity N0. 1102489) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 4925281). Based in Exeter and Barnstaple, our charitable aims mean we we can offer services across the South West and share good practice throughout the UK. Being led and run by people with disabilities and Deaf people ensures LOD has first hand knowledge and understanding of the issues facing service users and so is very well placed to increase the influence and voice of Deaf and disabled people. We do this by providing education, training and services which enable people to live the lives they choose.
