History of the See Hear Centre

History of the See Hear Centre - by the Advisory Group.

"In the 1990s, as the North Devon Sensory Group, we identified the need for a Centre in this area where people with hearing or sight loss could go to try out specialist equipment.  We approached different organisations and finally were supported by Living Options Devon to make it a reality, with the first member of staff appointed in 2002.  Currently the Centre is funded by Social Services, the Local Health Authority and the Big Lottery.  We are very fortunate to be based in the same building as the local Sensory Team from Social Services who provide us with the office space and facilities.

Each of us has a sensory loss, and some of us have been involved from the very beginning.  We now meet as an Advisory Group for the See Hear Centre, still identifying need in the community and trying to find solutions to enable all those with a sensory loss to improve their quality of life."
