Empowering people with disabilities for over 25 years
Devon Advocacy Consortium

The Devon Advocacy Consortium provides an independent, professional advocacy service for people over 16 in Devon.

Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and to get the services they need.  Advocates can visit you at home or a place of your choice and if an advocate can’t help they can find someone who will.

The Devon Advocacy service can help you if:

  • You have a health and / or social care related issue or complaint
  • An informed choice has to be made
  • A person lacks independent support
  • The person is lacking in confidence or is having trouble communicating

The Devon Advocacy Consortium provides the following free, flexible and confidential advocacy services:

Independent Advocacy under the Care Act

General and Health Complaints Advocacy for Adults

Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA)

Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA)

How we work: We have three bases across Devon. This ensures that people can easily access advocacy no matter where they live in Devon and that we understand local services. Our Advocacy Leads allocate referrals to an advocate that can best meet the needs of that person.
We will always try to meet people at the most suitable time and location for them.

About the Consortium

We are a group of nine experienced advocacy providers who are working together to improve access to advocacy for those who live in the County of Devon. Our advocates work to the Action for Advocacy Quality Standards and receive regular training to ensure our work is of a high standard. About Us

Living Options Devon is a well respected user-led organisation which works to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people can live the life they choose. Set up in 1990 LOD is a registered charity (Charity N0. 1102489) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 4925281). Based in Exeter and Barnstaple, our charitable aims mean we we can offer services across the South West and share good practice throughout the UK. Being led and run by people with disabilities and Deaf people ensures LOD has first hand knowledge and understanding of the issues facing service users and so is very well placed to increase the influence and voice of Deaf and disabled people. We do this by providing education, training and services which enable people to live the lives they choose.
