Devon Choice and Support Services

Supporting people with recruiting Personal Assistants and promoting person-centred approaches

With great disappointment, Living Options Devon are closing the Devon Personal Assistant Bank service in January 2018.

Thanks to funding from the Cabinet Office, the Personal Assistant Bank was set up in 2011 to address a gap in support services relating to recruiting care and support staff (as identified by our members). However, due to continued lack of funding, we feel it is now time to close the service.

If you are looking for support, we would suggest you contact some of the below organisations:

Contact Care Direct on: 0345 1551 007
Or, if you receive Direct Payments, speak to your Independent Living Advisor.

If you are looking to recruit a PA, or you are a PA who would like to advertise, please go to: www.pinpointdevon.co.uk.

A Personal Assistant (sometimes called a PA or support worker) is someone who is employed to help an individual live independently and do the things they want to do. This could involve: personal care, cooking, cleaning, driving to appointments and companionship.

We offer the following services to people who are PAs, or who employ PAs, as well as people who would like to work as a PA, or to employ a PA:

Devon Personal Assistant Bank: An online service bringing PAs and people looking to employ PAs (individual employers) together.

Monthly drop-in sessions: Call in for a chat over tea and cake. Learn about the PA role and local support available. Please contact Andrew Sumner for details.

As well as the above services, Living Options Devon has received funding from the Department of Health’s Health and Social Care Volunteering Fund for the My Future, My Way project. The project encourages individuals to speak out about what they need to live the life they want.  One of the objectives is to enable service users and their families to make informed decisions about what support, services and resources they need so they are leading decisions made about their care and support. About Us

Living Options Devon is a well respected user-led organisation which works to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people can live the life they choose. Set up in 1990 LOD is a registered charity (Charity N0. 1102489) and a company limited by guarantee (No. 4925281). Based in Exeter and Barnstaple, our charitable aims mean we we can offer services across the South West and share good practice throughout the UK. Being led and run by people with disabilities and Deaf people ensures LOD has first hand knowledge and understanding of the issues facing service users and so is very well placed to increase the influence and voice of Deaf and disabled people. We do this by providing education, training and services which enable people to live the lives they choose.

We are happy to provide all information about Living Options Devon and its projects in alternative formats by request. Please contact us using the details above.
