Safer Railway Stations for Blind and partially sighted people

The RNIB is running a petition calling on Network Rail and the Department of Transport to take action now, and make railway stations safe for blind and partially sighted people.

Lack of tactile surface

Between nine and 15% of people falling onto the tracks are blind or partially sighted, Rail Accident Investigation Branch statistics show.  Last year, a partially sighted man was struck and killed by a train after falling onto the track from a platform with no tactile surface, likely because he wasn’t aware he was close to the edge. This is not an isolated incident.
