New home secured for our sight and hearing loss team in Northern Devon
In January we shared the news that our See Hear Centre based on Alexandra Road was on the move and in need of a new location. Great news! We have now secured a new home at Roundswell Community Centre, in Barnstaple. Our sight and hearing loss team will now be able to deliver a limited pre-booked face to face appointment service.
On and Offline support services for disabled people in Northern Devon
The team will continue to offer free online consultations, advice and support, via Zoom, as well as over the telephone and email. However, the charity appreciates that not everyone is digitally connected and there is still a need to meet our friendly support staff face to face. We have put in place Covid systems that will keep everyone as safe as possible, so you can meet a team member at Roundswell Community Centre through a pre-booked appointment. Allowing you to try out our range of specialist equipment, and if you choose, borrow it for a short home trial.
Please note that these face to face spaces are limited and are currently only for people unable to access our service digitally or over the phone.
Same great service
The charity Living Options Devon, which runs the See Hear Centre, has been redesigning its advice and support offered to local community groups. The See Hear Centre will now be known as Living Options Northern Devon. The team will offer a wrap around service for disabled people in Northern Devon.
“The name might be changing but the sight and hearing loss service remains the same. Through Living Options Northern Devon we’ll now offer additional support services for disabled people, people with long term health conditions and sensory loss. These services will be both on and offline.
said Diana Crump, CEO Living Options Northern Devon.
Signpost people to additional free support services
As part of Living Options Northern Devon, the sight and hearing advisory team will now be able to signpost people to additional free support services (both on and offline) that the charity offers across North Devon.
These include:
- A confidential listening support service called Time to Talk
- A counselling service, including Deaf (BSL) counselling
- Deaf Led Services with support to employment through Deaf job club.
- Countryside Mobility which supports people with limited mobility to enjoy the countryside through it’s all terrain mobility hire scheme
- Keep Active a fitness and mobility support advice service.
