One Devon Collaborative Care Launches

Published 15th July 2022, in Blog, News, News & Updates, Wellbeing

One Devon launched in July which plans to pave the way for our new, innovative and collaborative approach to health and care in Devon.

One Devon is the Integrated Care System for Devon, which was formally established on 1 July 2022. One Devon is the name of the health and care system, which includes NHS organisations and local councils, as well the many other local organisations, groups and communities who work together to improve the health, wellbeing, and care of people in Devon.

It signifies our joint commitment to improve the health, wellbeing and care of our communities, removing traditional boundaries between services so people get the support that they need.

Under One Devon, the organisation’s are moving towards a system that is increasingly focused on enabling wellness, rather than treating illness and thinking community first, rather than hospital. While new partnerships are being forged between organisations, there will be a greater focus on the wider factors that impact our health such as housing, employment and leisure.

One Devon’s aim is that these new arrangements are not about systems or structures – they are about people. They want to empower people to take ownership of their health and wellbeing and, where they need care, for it to be accessible and personalised.

Inclusion at the heart

Inclusivity will be at the heart of One Devon. They want organisation staff, patients and service users to be confident that they will be valued, listened to, supported and cared for, regardless of their age, ethnicity, gender, ability and sexuality. They also want to overcome barriers people experience in accessing health and social care and in working for these local organisations.

Some of this work has already begun – listening to the experiences of our ethnically diverse and LGBTQ+ communities – and continuing to champion equality, diversity and inclusion.
