Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for Learning Disability and Autism

Published 10th August 2023, in News, News & Updates

Living Options Devon is pleased to be working alongside One Devon to deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for Learning Disability and Autism.

Living Options Devon have been contracted by NHS Devon to provide the recruitment, management and pastoral care for all the Experts by Experience and Facilitators/Trainers as part of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Devon Pilot Project 2023-2024.

Following the death of Oliver McGowan in 2016, the Heath & Care Act 2022 now states that regulated service providers must ensure that all health and care staff have appropriate learning disability and autism training.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the Government’s preferred and recommended training. It has been co-developed, co-trialled and evaluated and is co-delivered by autistic people and people with a learning disability who are paid for their time.

Funding has been made available by NHS England for the ICS (One Devon) to deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for Learning Disability and Autism across the county (including Torbay and Plymouth). The Pilot project is funded until March 2023.

Living Options Devon are currently in the process of recruiting and training the Experts by Experience Co-trainers and Facilitators/Trainers in preparation to start delivery in the Autumn.
