- I have been told that I have Macular Degeneration and they can’t do anything for me. I’m worried that I’ll go blind.
- The ringing in my ears doesn’t stop and no-one seems to understand
- I don’t go out anymore because I can’t see well enough
Finding everyday life difficult because of hearing or sight loss?
We support you to find solutions to the day to day problems you experience because of your sight or hearing loss, including advice and support for Tinnitus.
Sensory Loss Equipment – loan scheme
The sight and hearing team will carry out an informal consultation with you and advice on the equipment which might improve how you hear or how you read and see. The team have lots of different equipment and tools for sight and hearing loss, such as magnifiers and adapted telephones, they can demonstrate these to you and you can ‘try before you buy’. Our loan scheme on our equipment lets you take it home and try it before commiting to buying the equipment from a retailer.
Please note that we do not sell the equipment, we only offer the loan of the equipment. We do have some second hand equipment which is for sale. Please contact us for more information.
Skills for Seeing
Macular conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration or juvenile dystrophies, cause loss of central vision. Skills for seeing training can help you to use your vision more effectively. Learning new ways of seeing can help with reading, taking care of yourself, getting about and watching TV. We have trained staff skilled in teaching two techniques which can help you use your vision more effectively. Please contact us for more information.
Sensory Loss Training
The team also provide one to one training for people with sight or hearing loss on using a smart phone, computer or tablet so that you maintain your confidence and independence as your sight and hearing deteriorates. Please contact us for more information.
These are available at the See Hear Centre. What is Lip reading? More information can be found here
