Published 28th November 2024, in News, News & Updates, Wellbeing

For many of us, Christmas can be a particularly difficult time. This might be because of the extra pressure at home, financial strain, family tension or feelings of loneliness. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s easy to forget to prioritise your wellbeing.

If this resonates with you, please be kind and gentle with yourself. You are important and remember these feelings will pass.

It is also important to remember that you are not alone. Reaching out to others can help enormously.

Here are a couple tips to help with your wellbeing over Christmas.

  1. 1) Reach out for support if you need it.

First and foremost, remember that you are not alone. If you are feeling overwhelmed or down, it’s essential to reach out to friends, family, or one of the many support services that are offered throughout the UK. Sharing your feelings can be a powerful tool to combat stress and isolation.

Try to ask for help- sharing responsibilities with others can help to reduce the burden on yourself. Whether it’s cooking, cleaning or shopping, don’t be afraid to ask for a helping hand!

2) Do activities that make you feel good.

Whether it’s a hobby, exercise, or a self-care routine, make time to do the things that lift your spirits and recharge your batteries.

Here’s some examples!

  • Exercise: Try to incorporate some physical activity into your festive plans. Even if it’s going on a morning jog or taking a post dinner walk, spending the time to focus on your physical health will help you improve your mental health.

  • Creative outlets: Use the holiday as an opportunity to engage in creative activities. Such as: Cooking, painting or writing! It can be incredibly helpful to have somewhere positive to focus your mind.

3) Being outdoors is great for your mental wellbeing

Spending time outside has been proven to have numerous benefits for mental health.

It’s recommended that you try to get outside for at least 30 minutes a day. A brisk walk or just a quiet moment outside can do wonders for clearing your mind. Exposure to natural light can also help to regulate your sleep patterns and boost your mood. Try to take advantage of the daylight hours.

Consider combining the benefits of outdoor activity with exercise!

By reaching out for support, engaging in activities that make you feel good, and embracing the outdoors, you can begin to create a more relaxed festive season. Remember, the most important thing is to listen to your body and mind, and don’t be afraid to adjust your plans if you need to.
