Peter’s Legacy

Published 29th July 2021, in News & Updates, Uncategorised

Today (Thursday 29th July) we say a fond farewell to our founder, friend, and colleague Peter Swain OBE.

Thank you for the kind words, tributes, and wonderful memories you have shared with us over the last few weeks. These have brought lots of comfort to those who knew and loved him best.

Celebration of life

Peter’s funeral is taking place at Exeter Crematorium at 12.30 pm, and after a celebration of Peter’s life at Exeter Racecourse at 2pm.

In his own words

In 2015 we interviewed Peter as part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations. We now share this interview to mark his celebration of life and legacy. Peter talks about the origins and vision of Living Options Devon, its progress, and his future hopes for the charity he founded. It is these future hopes that in the aftermath of his passing we will unite in raising awareness, asking the questions, and striving for change for disabled people and Deaf people (BSL users) in our community.

“Barriers to independent living still exist, peoples horizons are limited still, and expectations are still relatively low and levels of understanding amongst the wider community are limited as to what disabled people have the capability of achieving. If we could improve that further, I think it would be a major achievement and we’d be making a major breakthrough”
